Preparation
Check the system software version
Follow the instruction below to check the system software version. If the system software version is Ver.2.00, the update is not required.
- Select Menu > Setup subpage 6 > Version on the camera.
- The system software version is displayed as illustrated below.

The latest version of the system software update is compatible with the following hardware:

Note: Please close all other application software before updating the system software. - Power source for the camera

Note: The update can be performed only when the remaining battery level is(three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery.

Important Notice
- Please close all other application software before updating the system software.
- When performing the system software update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-BX1.
- Do not remove the battery or AC adapter during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
- Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
- The system software update takes approximately 15 minutes, therefore prevent your computer from going into sleeping mode. In case the computer would go into sleeping mode and the update would be interrupted, redo the complete update process from the start.
How to download the Updater:
- Make sure that you are logged on as a user with administrative rights.
- At the bottom of the page, read the disclaimer and agree to the terms and conditions by clicking on the checkbox. Then, click on the Download button.
- The download of the [Update_DSCRX100M3V200.exe] file will start.
- Save the file to the desktop of your computer (recommended).
For Windows 8.1 or Windows10 users;
Under the initial settings of Internet Explorer, the update file will be saved in the [Downloads] folder. Click the [Desktop] tile from the Start screen and find the downloaded file in the [Downloads] folder by using Explorer.
Install
Step 1: Start up the Updater
- Close all currently running programs on your computer.
- Double-click the [Update_DSCRX100M3V200.exe] file you downloaded. - Do not connect the camera at this point.
- System Software Updater starts up.
- Turn on the camera.
- According to the instruction on the System Software Updater window, select Menu --> Setup subpage 3 --> USB Connection on the camera, and check if Mass Storage is selected.
If another mode than Mass Storage is selected, please select Mass Storage. - Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable. "USB Mode" appears on the LCD screen of the camera.
Note: If the computer cannot find the device, the message "Could not find the camera for this update." appears on the computer screen. Please try the following:- Disconnect the USB cable and connect it again.
- If the computer has multiple USB terminals, try with the other terminals.
- After confirming the LCD monitor of the camera, click [Next].The current version and the version after the update appear on the lower left part of the screen. After confirming that the current software version is "Ver.1.20 or earlier", click Next.If the current system software version is 2.00 or later, the update is not required. In this case stop the USB connection and click [Finish]. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack and/or the AC adapter, reinsert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter and turn on the camera.
Update is required
Update is not required - Click Next. The following screen appears.
- After automatically resetting, the screen below appears.
The progress bar appears while updating (approximately 15 minutes).
Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while updating. - Once the update is complete, the screen below will be shown. The camera will automatically reboot, which may take a few minutes. Please wait until the camera's LCD shows the same screen that appeared before starting the software update.
When the screen appears, press the [Finish] button and disconnect the USB cable.
If recovering data caution is displayed after restarting, please wait until this caution goes out. There are no abnormalities.
Step 2: Confirm the system software version of your device is Ver.2.00.
- On the camera select Menu > Setup subpage 6 > Version
- The system software version is displayed as illustrated below.
