Preparation

Your firmware may already be up to date, especially if you have a new Blu-ray Disc / DVD Home theatre system model. If the version number is M07.R.0631 or higher, you do not need to update.

If you're not sure, it's easy to check which version of firmware you have:

  1. Turn on your TV and the Blu-ray Disc / DVD Home Theatre System. Check it's tuned to the input your Blu-ray Disc / DVD Home theatre system is connected to, so if the player is connected to the HDMI 2 socket, choose HDMI 2 as the input.
  2. Press the "FUNCTION" button repeatedly until "BD/DVD" function appears in the front panel display.
  3. If it starts to play a disc, press STOP and wait until you see the XrossMediaBar™ (XMB™) menu screen.
  4. At the XrossMediaBarTM, highlight Setup > System Settings then select ENTER using the arrow keys on the remote control.
  5. Highlight System Information and select ENTER.
  6. On the TV screen, the firmware version number looks like this: "Software Version M07.R.0631" - if the version number is M07.R.0631 or higher, you already have the most recent firmware version.

Update using a recordable CD-R and your PC

We recommend you use the internet to update if you can. If not, you can use this method instead. You'll download the update to your computer, burn it to a blank disc, then transfer it to your Blu-ray Disc/DVD Home Theatre System .

We recommend the following operating systems: Windows® Vista®, or Windows® 7.

How to make sure the update goes smoothly

Updating is usually very simple. Here's how you can make sure it works first time:

  • Read the instructions carefully or you could end up damaging your Blu-ray Disc/DVD Home Theatre System .
  • Don't turn the Blu-ray Disc/DVD Home Theatre System off - or disconnect it from the power - while it's updating.
  • Don't press any buttons, except the ones mentioned in the instructions.

Download the update to your computer:

  1. Read and agree to the terms and conditions
  2. Download the file UPDATA_M07R0631.ZIP to your computer - remembering which directory you download it to.
  3. Find the file on your computer, right-click on it and click Properties. Check the size is 70,8 MB (74,277,177 bytes).

Create the disc:

  1. Extract the file to your computer. The extracted files are called MSB07-FW.BIN and MSB07-FW.ID
  2. Write the files MSB07-FW.BIN and MSB07-FW.ID to a blank recordable CD. Using CD burning software? Select universal disc UDF format (UDF).
    Use of the ISO9660 format may result in an incorrect update disc.

Transfer the update to your player

First get the equipment ready, then transfer the update to your player.

Get the equipment ready:

  1. Turn on your TV and check it's tuned to the input your Blu-ray Disc/DVD Home Theatre System is connected to. (So if the player is connected to the HDMI 2 socket, choose HDMI 2 as the input.)
  2. Turn on the Blu-ray Disc/DVD Home Theatre System.
  3. Press the "FUNCTION" button repeatedly until "BD/DVD" function appears in the front panel display - You can only perform the upgrade when the "BD/DVD" function is selected. If it starts to play a disc, press STOP and wait until you see the XrossMediaBar™ (XMB™) menu screen.
  4. Select "Quick Start Mode" using the remote control - make sure that the "Quick Start Mode" is set to "Off", otherwise, the firmware upgrade may not succeed.
  5. Put the disc in the player, and close the disc tray.

Transfer the update:

  1. After the disc loads, you see the message Perform version update? is displayed on the TV.
  2. Select OK using the remote control, and then press ENTER.
  3. The update starts.
  4. During the update, you see the message UPDATINGon the front panel dsiplay.
  5. When the message COMPLETE appears on the front panel display and, the update is complete. The player automatically turns off.- Don't use or turn off the system until the update is complete.
  6. Turn the system back on.
  7. Check the firmware version. If the version number is M07.R.0631, the firmware update was successful.

Troubleshooting

What to do if you have problems updating your Blu-ray Disc/DVD Home Theatre System firmware using your PC and a disc.

  • "UPDATE" and "ERROR" are displayed alternately on the front panel display.
    1. Turn off the system and disconnect the AC power cord.
    2. Turn on the power of the Blu-ray Disc/DVD Home Theatre System.
    3. Take the disc out.
    4. Try the disc update procedure again.

  • The message "UPDATING" is not displayed in the fron panel when the update disc is inserted.
    Turn on the system again keeping the upgrade disc in the tray. The upgrade should restart automatically.
  • The power went off while the update was in progress
    Turn the player on keeping the update disc in the tray. The update will restart automatically.

  • The UPDATA_M07R0631.ZIP update file I downloaded from the update web site cannot be extracted.
    Did you download the file successfully? Try deleting the file and downloading it again.

  • The update has been going for over 30 minutes and hasn't finished
    1. Disconnect the AC power cord from the mains, then reconnect it after several minutes.
    2. Turn on the Blu-ray Disc / DVD Home theatre system.
    3. Try the disc update procedure again.

Updating over the internet 

We recommend this method as it's the simplest way to update. It usually takes about 15-30 minutes. First set up the equipment, then download the update over the internet to your Blu-ray Disc / DVD Home theatre system.

What you need:

  • an Ethernet cable to connect your Blu-ray Disc / DVD Home theatre system to the internet
  • an active internet connection
  • a compatible TV

  • Press the "FUNCTION" button repeatedly until "BD/DVD" function appears in the front panel display.- You can only perform the upgrade when the "BD/DVD" function is selected
  • At the XrossMediaBar TM, select Setup > System Settings using the arrow keys on the remote control and then select ENTER.
  • Select "Quick Start Mode" using the remote control - make sure that the "Quick Start Mode" is set to "Off", otherwise, the firmware upgrade may not succeed.

Get the update:

  • At the XrossMediaBar TM, select Setup > Network Update using the arrow keys on the remote control and then select ENTER.
  • The message Perform version update? is displayed on the TV.
  • Select OK using the remote control, and then press ENTER.
  • The download process starts and you see the download screen on the TV.
  • During the download, you see the message DL */9on the TV. The * changes to 0 and goes up to 9 during the download process.
  • After the download is complete, the update starts.
  • During the update, you see the message UPDATINGon the front panel dsiplay.
  • When the message COMPLETE appears on the front panel display and, the update is complete. The player automatically turns off.- Don't use or turn off the system until the update is complete.
  • Turn the system back on.
  • Check the firmware version. If the version number is M07.R.0631, the firmware update was successful.

    2. In the network settings, check you have confirmed whether or not your Blu-ray Disc / DVD Home theatre system has its own IP address. (If you use a proxy server, type the IP address of the proxy you use - instead of the proxy host name - into the Proxy Server field.)
    3. Try the update again.

  • The power went off while the update was in progress.
    Turn the player on and try the update again.

  • The update has been going for over 30 minutes and hasn't finished.
    1. Disconnect the AC power cord from the mains, then reconnect it after several minutes.
    2. Turn on the Blu-ray Disc / DVD Home theatre system.
