Confirm the system software version of your camera
Follow the instructions below to check the system software version of your camera.
If the system software version is Ver.3.20 or later, the update is not required.
- Select Menu --> Setup subpage 6 --> Version on the camera.
- The system software version is displayed as illustrated below.
System Requirements
Operating Systems
The latest version of the system software update is compatible with the following Mac versions:
- Mac OS X v.10.10–10.11 / macOS 10.12-10.13*
*Important:
For macOS 10.13, please ensure the "DriverLoader_1013" has been installed before update your software.
Computer hardware
The latest version of the system software update is compatible with the following hardware:
- CPU: Intel processor*
* Core Solo and Core Duo processors are no longer supported. - Hard disk space: 300MB or more
- RAM: 512MB or more
Note: Please close all other application software before updating the system software. - Power source for the camera
- Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50 or AC adapter AC-PW20 (sold separately)
Note: The update can be performed only when the remaining battery level is(three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery or the AC adapter AC-PW20 (sold separately).
- Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50 or AC adapter AC-PW20 (sold separately)
- USB cable supplied with the camera
Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.
Download
- When performing the system software update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50 or the AC adapter AC-PW20 (sold separately).
- Do not remove the battery or AC adapter during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
- Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
- Prevent your computer from sleeping beforehand, because it takes approximately 15 minutes to perform the system software update. For details on how to do this, consult the manufacturer.
- Do not choose About This Firmware Updater from FirmwareUpdater Menu. Doing so may cause the updater software to crash, especially while updating.
Download the Firmware Updater
- Make sure that you are logged on as a user with administrative rights.
- After reading the disclaimer, click the [Download] button below.
- The download of the [Update_ILCE7V320.dmg] file will start.
- Save the file on your computer.
Install
- Close all currently running programs on your computer.
- Double-click the [Update_ILCE7V320.dmg] file you downloaded. - Do not connect the camera at this point.
- Double-click the [Update_ILCE7V320] icon which appears on the Desktop.
- Double-click the [Firmware Updater] icon.
- To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes. Type the password for the administrative account.
- Firmware Updater starts up.
- Turn on the camera.
- According to the instruction on the Firmware Updater window, select Menu --> Setup subpage 4 --> USB Connection on the camera, and check if Mass Storage is selected.
Ifanother mode than Mass Storage is selected, please select Mass Storage. - Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
Note: When the camera is connected to the computer, the LCD screen of the camera turns off. Please proceed to the next step.
If the LCD screen of the camera does not turn off, please try the following methods.- Disconnect the USB cable and connect it again.
- If the computer has multiple USB terminals, try with the other terminals.
- Click [Next] on Firmware Updater. Figure 1 appears on Firmware Updater, and Figure 2 appears on the LCD screen of the camera.
Note: From now on, do not turn off the camera until the system software update is completed.

Figure 2 - After confirming the screens on Figures 1 and 2, Click Next. The current version and the version after the update appear on the lower left part of the screen. If the current system software version is 3.20 or later, the update isnot required. In this case stop the USB connection and click Finish, turn off the camera, remove the battery pack and/or the AC adapter, reinsert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter and turn on the camera.
- Click Next. The following screen appears.
- Press the center of the control wheel to execute.
Note: The screen turns off when the center of the control wheel is pressed. Please proceed to the next step. - Click [Next] on Firmware Updater.
- After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the screen on Figure 3 appears.
- Click [Run] to start the update. The progress bar appears while updating (this will take approximately 15 minutes).
Note:Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while updating.
Figure 3 - When the update is completed, the camera will automatically restart. It may take a few minutes to restart. Make sure the camera is turned on and wait until the LCD screen appears again. Click [Finish] when the LCD screen appears.
Note: After automatically restarting of the camera, a restoration screen may be displayed. While it is displayed, please do not disconnect USB cable. And after finishing a restoration, the camera may power off automatically. But theupdate is completed. - Disconnect the USB cable.
