What types of TVs cannot be connected to a soundbar or home theater system

To ensure you get the best audio experience when connecting your soundbar or home theater system to your TV, it's important to choose the correct connection method. The recommended option is to use an HDMI® cable, as it provides the highest quality sound and seamless compatibility. However, if your TV doesn't support eARC/ARC, there are alternative options available. The following steps will guide you through the recommended setups and highlight situations where certain TVs may not be compatible.

Connect your soundbar/home theater system to the TV using only an HDMI cable.

    • Use a TV that supports eARC/ARC. If the HDMI port on your TV is labeled eARC/ARC, it is compatible.
    • While we recommend using only an HDMI cable for the best connection, if your TV doesn't support eARC/ARC, you can use an optical digital audio cable (sold separately) for audio output.
Note: This method works only if both the soundbar/home theater system and the TV have an optical port.

Therefore, the following TVs can't be connected, or are not recommended for connection:

    • TVs that don't support eARC/ARC and don't have an optical audio output port
    • TVs without an HDMI port, which connect only through D-terminal or analog cables (yellow, red, white)
