When I connect the 4K Ultra HD BRAVIA TV to the PlayStation 4 Pro, 4K HDR is not recognized on Video Output Settings
Issue: You cannot select 2160p-RGB on your PlayStation 4 Pro, or HDR is shown as Only 2K supported.
Applies to: BRAVIA TVs with Sony’s Google TV (Europe)
Likely cause: The TV input, HDMI cable, or settings do not support a full 4K HDR signal.
Resolution summary: Check your HDMI cable, enable Enhanced format on your TV, and verify PS4 Pro video settings.
Step 1: Check your HDMI cable
Make sure you are using a 4K HDR compatible HDMI cable (18 Gbps).
- Use the cable supplied with your PlayStation 4 Pro, or
- Use a Premium High Speed HDMI cable
Why this matters: Standard HDMI cables may limit resolution to 2K and prevent HDR.
Step 2: Use a compatible HDMI port on your TV
Not all HDMI ports support 4K HDR.
- Check your TV manual to identify which HDMI ports support HDR
- Connect your PS4 Pro to one of these ports
Is my Android TV™/Google TV™ compatible with HDR?
Step 3: Enable Enhanced format on your TV
This setting allows your TV to receive full 4K HDR signals.
- Open Settings on your TV
- The next steps will depend on your TV menu options:
- Select Channels & Inputs — External inputs — HDMI signal format/VRR.
- Select Channels & Inputs — External inputs — HDMI signal format.
- Select Watching TV — External inputs — HDMI signal format.
- Select External inputs — HDMI signal format.
- Select the HDMI port connected to your PS4 Pro
- Set it to Enhanced format
Note: On some models (e.g. Z9K/Z9J), use Enhanced format (4K120, 8K) for HDMI 4.
Important: If you changed the HDMI signal format (Standard ↔ Enhanced) while both the TV and PlayStation 4 Pro were turned on, the PS4 Pro may not detect the change correctly.
In this case:
- Turn off both the TV and PlayStation 4 Pro
- Turn them back on again
This refresh ensures the correct resolution and HDR capabilities are detected.
Step 4: Set HDR to Automatic on PS4 Pro
- Press the PS button
- Go to Settings
- Select Sound and Screen
- Select Video Output Settings
- Set HDR to Automatic
Step 5: Check if HDR and 4K are detected
- Go to Settings → Sound and Screen → Video Output Settings
- Select Video Output Information
Confirm:
- Resolution: 2160p-RGB is available
- HDR on your TV: shows 2K/4K supported
If the issue is still not resolved
- Update your PlayStation 4 Pro system software
- Try a different HDMI cable or port
