Gonçalo Delgado | Portugal

"Give name to the nameless, give voice to the muted"

Gonçalo Delgado began his career in 2004. Coming from a family with a strong tradition of Photography and Photojournalism, it was not surprising that from an early age he took this path professionally. In addition to constant training with the “best teachers in his life” at home, he studied at the Portuguese Institute of Photography in Porto. He divides his time between documentary photojournalism and news, and since 2011 he has focused on long-term projects and documentary photojournalism in Europe, developing themes related to the human condition, but not exclusively.

He has been published in some of the most reputable international media including: National Geographic, Wall Street Journal, The Telegraph, The Guardian, Seattle Times, Le Monde, El Pais, The Sunday Times, Internazionale, La Republica, Marca, NBC, Die Zeit, and Focus. In 2021 he was assigned to officially cover the Portuguese Presidency of The Council of the Europe Union. In 2016 he founded Low Light Press a photography and documentary video agency. He has previously been a Staff Photojournalist at WAPA, Corbis Images (UK) and currently collaborates with Global Images, Lusa, EPA - European Pressphoto Agency and Impresa agencies. He was one of the official photographers of Braga: European Youth Capital 2012 and also a contributor to Guimarães: European Capital of Culture 2012.

He has also had dozens of exhibitions, both home and abroad, including Asia, Beijing, Tokyo, Osaka and Shanghai, as well as images in private collections and historical assets for the Municipality of Braga. Over the years, he has been teaching numerous Photography and Photojournalism Workshops, including workshops and also as a Teacher of Photojournalism at the Master Degree of Social Communication at Universidade Do Minho (Minho’s University).
